Merkato

Addis Ababa’s Merkato is the largest open-air market in Africa. It offers a vibrant experience where visitors can buy traditional crafts, spices, textiles, and just about anything else imaginable. Unity Park

Unity Park is a relatively new attraction in Addis Ababa, situated within the Grand Palace complex. It features beautiful gardens, a zoo, and restored imperial buildings that showcase Ethiopia’s rich cultural and historical heritage. The park also provides insight into Ethiopia’s biodiversity and history through its well-curated exhibits.

 

National Museum of Ethiopia

The National Museum houses the famous fossil of “Lucy” (Australopithecus afarensis), one of the oldest and most complete hominid skeletons ever found. The museum offers a journey through Ethiopia’s prehistoric and ancient history, with exhibits ranging from archeological finds to artistic masterpieces.

 

Entoto

Entoto, a historic mountain located on the outskirts of Addis Ababa, offers breathtaking panoramic views of the capital city and holds significant cultural and religious importance. At an altitude of over 3,000 meters, Entoto served as the first capital of Ethiopia during Emperor Menelik II’s reign in the late 19th century. Visitors can explore Entoto Maryam Church, one of the region’s oldest churches, and the nearby museum, which showcases royal artifacts and historical items.
